KehatiKu: Community-led biodiversity monitoring

KehatiKu is a community-led biodiversity monitoring programme that is redefining how conservation is done in tropical landscapes. By combining Indigenous ecological knowledge, community-based monitoring, and performance-based incentives, KehatiKu generates verified wildlife data while supporting local livelihoods and strengthening relationships between communities and conservation.

Since launching in West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo, the programme has mobilised around 800 local observers across nine villages and generated more than 300,000 wildlife observations, including critically endangered species, such as the Bornean Orangutan and Abbott’s Gibbon, creating one of the world’s most powerful community-driven biodiversity datasets.

Brunei-based, Globally-engaged

Through community engagement and evidence-based insights, we work to create a future where nature and people thrive together.
