Azizi joined the team in 2025 as the lead application developer for our novel citizen science-based programmes. Outside of application development, Azizi is an integral team player at Borneo Futures – helping to improve processes at all levels of the company and across projects.
His core responsibilities are leading the design, development and maintenance of Borneo Futures’ core application platforms supporting citizen science and biodiversity monitoring programs. Within this, he builds the offline-first mobile applications for field data collection in remote and low-connectivity environments, and designs and maintains backend service layers (APIs, authentication flows, data routing) to support scalable, multi-project systems.

Azizi also works to develop and manage database schemas, data pipelines, and integrations to ensure data integrity and long-term maintainability, and works closely with biodiversity scientists, geospatial analysts, statisticians, and project teams to translate scientific and operational requirements into technical solutions. In addition, he supports the development of verification workflows, media handling, and automation pipelines for citizen science data.
As a member of the senior management team, Azizi also focuses on improving internal technical processes, standards, and workflows across projects; mentoring junior developers and providing technical guidance across teams; and contributing to strategic planning around platform scalability, cost optimization, security, and a future technical roadmap
